Hubbamax for Zed
A dark Zed theme based on Vim's habamax, ported from
alexpasmantier/hubbamax.nvim.
Low-saturation, easy on the eyes, with the upstream #1c1c1c background and a muted accent palette
(green strings, purple keywords, blue types, pink constants, cyan functions).
Personal tweaks
This port carries over a couple of personal adjustments from my Neovim config:
- Variables use the plain foreground (
#bcbcbc) instead of cyan, and punctuation and brackets are dimmed to muted grey (#9e9e9e), so only the more meaningful tokens (keywords, types, strings, constants) carry color. - Comments are italic. hubbamax.nvim leaves
Commentupright; this follows the more common Zed convention instead. Doc comments are a step brighter (#8a8a8a) than regular comments. - Upstream Hubbamax surface ladder. The editor uses the original
#1c1c1cbase, panels and inactive tabs rise to#262626, overlays and the status bar use#303030, and the active tab uses a dark purple#413941. Blue, cyan, and purple interaction accents add color without changing the syntax palette. - Clear workspace hierarchy. Active labels use the standard
#bcbcbcforeground, metadata uses a restrained cyan-gray#8a9e9e, primary icons use light cyan, secondary icons recede to#767676, and accent icons use purple. Git icons switch naturally between green, gold, and red as repository state changes. - Semantic accent surfaces. Neutral controls start at
#262626and use translucent hover and pressed layers that adapt to their surface, while#303030and#3a3a3adefine the divider and border hierarchy. Selected controls and editor selections use restrained purple, keyboard focus stays blue, drop targets remain cyan, and semantic states use low-alpha Hubbamax colors behind their text, echoing the Vim indicators without competing with code. - Matching brackets highlight with the keyword purple (
#af87af, at low alpha) instead of a grey tint.
Vim mode
With Zed's Vim mode enabled, the status bar mode indicator is colored per mode, matching hubbamax.nvim's lualine theme:
| Mode | Color |
|---|---|
| Normal | grey #9e9e9e |
| Insert | green #5faf5f |
| Visual / Visual Line / Visual Block | purple #af87af |
| Replace | red #af5f5f |
Yank highlights flash orange #ffaf5f, matching the colorscheme's IncSearch.
The editor cursor itself is a single color (#dadada, the normal-mode color) — Zed exposes
one cursor color, not one per mode.
